Lyrics: My momma always used to say to me Now come on boy you better listen to me. Don't want you staying out playing no jazz and blues That's not the reason I sent you to school. I was looking for a little musical truth And I think I found it in my mispent musical youth. I was looking for a little musical truth And I think I found it in my mispent musical youth. I went in to a club where was promised could be seen A man who could really make that guitar scream. I stepped inside and the jazz began to swing I said "Now babe that's my kind of thing." I was looking for a little musical truth... Mispent, mispent, mispent, mispent musical youth... Well give me rock and roll to feed my soul Won't you sing the blues the way that you do? Well give me some jazz all night long Just don't sing me another love song. I was looking for a little musical truth... Mispent, mispent, mispent, mispent musical youth... And if this is mispent musical youth Then slap an ASBO on me babe yeah. |
Info: Again, new tune to some old words. While I enjoy listening to some classical music this is about someone breaking free from the rigidity of it all to go to the dark side - jazz and blues. This is frowned upon by his mother, but he finds some "musical truth" by going to a jazz club to see a proficient jazz guitarist. I have a lot of time and respect for classical musicians, but I think the way music is traditionally taught does stifle creativity. I can read music (quite badly) myself, but prefer not to. It's all about not conforming and angst and revolution and rebellion - the old rock and roll favourites. |
